The Walden Pumpkin Farm Story

Walden Farm was purchased in 1986.  It is nestled between the rolling hills of Rutherford and Williamson County.  This 265 acre farm became the perfect place for the family to establish a homestead, and a place of serenity and harmony for the family to live and grow.  Three generations of Walden’s live on the farm.

In 1999, the next chapter unfolded.  A few rows of pumpkins were planted in the garden just for fun.  We had no idea we’d be picking close to 500 pumpkins at harvest time.  What were we going to do with all those pumpkins? Not knowing the answer, we picked them all and piled them up against the barn.  The answer soon came as people pulled into the farm to inquire about buying a pumpkin.  The idea was planted, and we knew the interest was definitely there.  After much thought and planning, the family decided to grow more pumpkins and open the farm for the community to enjoy.

In the fall of 2000, Walden Farm opened to a wonderful reception from the public.  School tours were booked and the open fields were soon filled with cars.  The community welcomed our family-oriented farm where kids and adults were alike in their curiosity about life on the farm.

From May through October the work doesn’t stop.  We each have an important role in operating the farm and making a wonderful experience for the public. There are about 22 family members that help during the fall season.  It is a fun and rewarding time for each of us.

Walden Farm is open from late September through October 31 each year.  As the heat of summer is lulling into the crisp coolness of autumn, people all over Middle Tennessee come to enjoy picking out that perfect pumpkin or just rocking on the barn porch.  We are so fulfilled by smiling faces and those who truly enjoy the farm.

Hayrides, farm animals, hay and corn mazes, Tennessee Slip n Slide, and delicious food and treats are just some of what the farm offers.  The Ole Country store sells a complete selection of fall decorating items, delicious jams, jellies, and honey.  We also have carving kits and toys, just to name a few.

We love seeing familiar faces from year to year, and always enjoy meeting new ones!  Many families have made coming to Walden Farm one of their family traditions and we are so blessed and honored by that.  We can’t wait to see you this fall!
